Bridlington Spa Complex : Other Areas

Reception

Foyer and Reception

Foyer

This area forms part of the newly built part of the complex. This area went through various design changes, at one point the ceiling was gong to be a wave formation going up and down from doors to the windows.

The main design for the space has not changed a great deal from the original proposal of compact fluorescent downlights.

The cove lighting was decided on during the construction phase of the project, and on site demonstration assisted the council in deciding the LEDs were the correct solution. The LEDs are exactly the same type as used in the light boxes in the main hall. The LEDs in the main hall were ordered after the client had seen this cove lighting in situ.

The controls in this area are provided by the same type of dimmer pack as used in the other areas. DSI runs the downlights through out all the area. The capability for generating DMX was one key feature that was required to control the LEDs.

Break Out Areas

Breakout Area

These areas are for use by private functions or for bars when large concerts are being held in the Royal Hall.

Some of these areas have spectacular views out to sea and a newly built to to give these almost panoramic views.

Breakout Area

There is a mixture of ceiling types in these area with a tendency to have an inner plasterboard ceiling surrounded by a tee grid.

Breakout Area

In this area it was decided that using Reflex Pastelle around the perimeter would give good vertical illumination on to the walls. A mix of compact fluorescent downlights and LED downlights are used to illuminate the central area. The combination of fittings gives a very good functionality to the lighting, giving the choice of a variety of atmospheres by simply pressing a button on the control plate. This control plates is again linked back to a Mode Evolution dimmer pack. The control plates are located either in service risers or behind the bars to prevent unauthorised persons pressing the buttons.

Offices

Within the Spa complex there are a few offices (located on the second floor). These are particularly airy spaces with an open roof structure showing the original steel work beams.

Offices

A suspended continuous run Hallward was selected for this area due to the high upward light component. The continuous run was modified to have a flat in-fill section. This flat section provided not only an aesthetically pleasing profile but the ideal surface to mount the low voltage spotlights and the DSI smart sensors.

Each smart sensor has presence and daylight detection built in which maintains the illumination level of from the fluorescent luminaires.
