Ragdale Hall Thermal Spa
Overview
Ragdale hall is a premier health hydro and thermal spa complex offering state of the art treatments to help relax the guests.
Apollo was chosen to supply all the lighting for this project, this ranged from plant areas to specialist underwater fittings and bespoke made fibre optics solutions
The installation was designed by the consulting engineer with the assistance of the lighting designers at Apollo Lighting Ltd
Candle Pool
This area is illuminated with various different types of luminaires. the ceiling has fibre optic cables both hanging down to icicle tips and also a fibre optic star ceiling. The fibre optic generators are equipped with 150W Metal Halide lamps and are located on the access gangways above the area.
This area also had bespoke manufactured nylon candles, these have a small diameter fibre optic cable running up through the middle, the generator has a flicker wheel installed to give the flickering effect and a colour correction filter to acheive the correct colour temperature of a candle. Apollo Lighting worked closely with suppliers and also the consultant to acheive a perfect looking candle and fibre optic solution.
Other fittings installed in this area are underwater colour change RGB LEDs mounted in the sides of the pool, these run from bank of constant current DMX controlled drivers mounted remotely in IP rated cabinets.
Thermal Pool
The thermal pool runs both inside and outside and is heated for the customers comfort. As with the other water ways on this scheme luminaires used are a mix of colour change RGB LEDs and also high power low voltage tungsten halogen underwater fittings mounted in the walls of the pool. The tungsten halogen fittings have a unique plug and socket arrangement to allow the lamp to be changed underwater which means that the pool doesnt have to be drained for maintenance, saving the end user both time and money in their maintenance program. The bespoke manufactured transfomers for these low voltage luminaires were originally going to be mounted in feeder pillars adjacent to the mounting positions, this turned out to be an unworkable solution due to aesthetics. The transformers were mounted remotely and Apollo worked closely with its suppliers and also the contractor to ensure cable lengths and capacities were within tolerances. Again, all the luminaires in the thermal pool are fully dimmable from the control system.
Main Area
The main area shown above is a circular are with small waterways in the ground, there are various alcoves leading off to the other areas and treatment rooms. The main feature of this area is the glazed dome and profiled ceiling. The dome is illuminated using bespoke manufactured 4.7m diameter cold cathode ring with blue lamps and compatible with the DMX control system.
The dome is illuminated with two types of luminaires. The primary source is a twin 36w PLL surface mounted luminaire mounted on bespoke bracketry to allow maintenance from the gangway behind the upper wall of the area. The seconary source is RGB LED projectors, each of these projectors has twenty two LEDs and integral DMX dimmable driver, each LED projector is uniquely addressed. All the luminaires illuminating the dome are controlled from the control system giving the user complete flexibility and control of the area.
Other luminaires in the main area are under water RGB LED fixtures and compact fluorescent surface mounted luminaires allowing illumination of the planted areas.
Other Areas
Apollo supplied all the luminaires on this project including all the backup areas, plant rooms and also entrance areas etc.
Other luminaires included downlights, wall lights, suspended fittings, in-ground uplights all with various lamp types and powers to suit the illumination levels required. Bespoke solutions in the other areas included recessed LED strips to illuminate glazed doors, these were recessed in to the door frames so the glass is internally illuminated.
